Seawolves Fall to Lynx in NECA Semifinals

South Portland - In this afternoons NECA baseball tournament semifinal action the Lynx from NHTI jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Seawolves in the third inning and remained in the lead for the entirety of the game. Despite a big push from the Seawolves in the seventh inning they fell short, losing 6-7.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Seawolves found themselves down 3-0 until centerfielder Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) hit an RBI single bringing home leftfielder Brendan Horton (South Portland, ME) to put the Seawolves on the board. With Brown on second designated hitter Pat Emanuelson (Hudson, NH) brought him home by crushing a triple, bringing the Seawolves to within one run to begin the seventh inning. An RBI double by NHTI's Mike Bailey (Stratford, NH) and an RBI single by shortstop Zach Drouin (Barnstead, NH) partnered with creative base running by the Lynx widened the margin to 7-2 at the bottom of the seventh. With one out and bases loaded for the Seawolves Brown stepped to the plate and nailed a grand slam over the fence in right field bringing the Seawolves to within one run again, 6-7. The Lynx defense buckled down and retired the next two batters quickly leaving the Seawolves just shy of victory.

NHTI would go on to win the NECA tournament championship defeating Eastern Maine Community College by a score of 5-4. EMCC defeated UNH earlier in the day in the semifinals to move on to the championship.

This tournament wraps up the fall season for the Seawolves, ending with an overall record of 10-5 and a conference record of 5-3. The Seawolves will return to action in the spring.
