Seawolves Battle but Fall Short

Newport News, VA - The baseball team continued their preseason play in Virginia this afternoon against Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) from Hampton, Virginia. The Seawolves committed seven errors, allowing TNCC to put up nine runs en route to a 9-6 loss.  On the offensive end the Seawolves were led by first baseman Zachary Horton (South Portland, ME) who went two for four at the plate with a walk and an RBI and catcher Jon Daniszewski (Laconia, NH) who was 3-5 for the game and scored two of the Seawolves' six runs. Relief pitcher Tim Andersen (Beverly, MA) kept the game in reach by pitching three scoreless innings but the Seawolves just couldn't generate enough offense to oversome TNCC.

The final game of today's double header was a rematch between the Seawolves and The Apprentice School, who handed the Seawolves a 11-4 loss when the two teams faced off yesterday. Today the Seawolves kicked up the defense and pitcher Derek Roberts (Conway, NH)a threw five strikeouts in four and a third innings allowing the Shipbuilders just three runs. Adam Volkernick (Rumford, ME) drilled an RBI double to bring home a run for the Seawolves in the fifith. But the Shipbuilders who rack up one more run and the Seawolves would come up empty for the remainder of the contest eventaully falling to Apprentice 4-1.

With this pair of losses the Seawolves slip to 0-4. Tomorrow they will face Thomas Nelson Community College at 6pm, looking to avenge today's loss and grab their first win of the 2014 season.
