Dean Downs Seawolves in Double Header

Franklin, MA - This afternoon the Seawolves battled NJCAA member Dean College and despite keeping the games close each contest slipped away from the Seawolves, losing the first game 9-3 and the second 4-3.

In the opening game the Seawolves were down 2-0 after four innings when right fielder Adam Volkernick (Rumford, ME) led off with a walk and scored on a pass ball bringing the the Seawolves to within one. In the bottom of the fifth the Bulldogs put four runs on the scoreboard widening their lead to 6-1. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the sixth extending their lead to 9-1. SMCC catcher Owen Kimmel (New York, NY) crushed his first collegiate homerun in the seventh bringing in two runs, making the score 9-3. The Seawolves' offense was unable to generate any more runs, falling to the Bulldogs 9-3. Shortstop Ethan Bilderback (Annapolis, MD) had an impressive offensive performance going three for three with a double, a triple and an RBI.

In the second contest the Seawolves were able to hold onto a 3-2 lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bulldogs came up with a single, a double and the Seawolves threw three wild pitches which led to the eventual Dean triumph. The Bulldogs walked off on a wild pitch to overcome the Seawolves 4-3. Seawolves' centerfielder Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) nailed a two run homer and pitcher Corey Mongiat (Waterboro, ME) went five innings with three strikeouts and zero walks. 

The Seawolves are currently 8-15 overall and 5-4 in conference play. They will be back in action on Tuesday April 8th at home against Northern Essex Community College at 3:30pm.
