Seawolves Take Two From Navy Prep

Newport, RI - This afternoon the Seawolves' baseball team played their fourth and fifth games in three days as they traveled to the Naval Prepatory Academy for double header action. The Seawolves came out on top in both contests to improve their record to 6-1 overall.

In game one the Seawolves' offense was generated by centerfielder Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) who crushed a two run homer, shortstop Phillip Langley (Shawnee, OK) who chipped in with two RBIs and Caleb Dostie (Lewiston, ME) who scored two of the Seawolves six total runs, en route to a 6-2 victory. Pitcher Timothy Andersen (Beverly, MA) threw the first five innings for SMCC giving up nine hits and two unearned runs while striking out six batters. Relief pitcher Anthony Campagnoli (Rockland, ME) earned his first collegiate win by throwing two scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and striking out three.

Navy Prep jumped out to a large lead in game two going up 6-0 in the first inning. In the second the Seawolves responded with a Tucker Lee (Lexington, IL) homerun that drove in two runs and put SMCC on the scoreboard. In the third Alex Brown nailed another two run homerun to close the gap to just two runs with Navy leading 6-4. In inning four outfielder Caleb Burpee (Kennebunk, ME) drove in two runs with a two out, two RBI double to tie the game at 6-6. The Seawolves would take the lead for good in the sixth when they come up with three runs from RBIs by Brown and Dylan Farrell-Reny (South Portland, ME) and a sacrifice fly by Burpee. Navy tacked on an additional run in the seventh but it wasn't enough to overcome the Seawolves advantage.

Pitcher Shawn Murphy (Mechanic Falls, ME) earned the save for the Seawolves throwing innings six and seven, giving up only one run and securing the 9-7 victory for SMCC.

The 6-1 Seawolves will be back on the field on September 18th at Eastern Maine CC at 4:30pm.
