SMCC Splits Double Header with Farmington

South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves played a pair of nine inning contests against the Beavers of the University of Maine - Farmington. In game one the Beavers prevailed 6-1 but the Seawolves came back in game two winning 9-6.

In game one Seawolves pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) had a solid start, giving up one earned run in five innings but errors allowed the Beavers to put more runs on the board. The SMCC offense could not muster a run until the eigth inning but the deficit was too big for the Seawolves to overcome, falling to UMF 6-1. First baseman Sean Adams (Lebanon, ME) had the best offensive showing, going 2-3 at the plate.

Game two was a different story for the Seawolves' offense, as Kyle Bussiere (Lewiston, ME) ripped an RBI triple to score shortstop Phillip Langley (Shawnee, OK). Bussiere than scored on a passed ball to give SMCC a 2-0 lead. The Beavers answered immediately putting up two runs in the bottom of the inning and tying the game. The Seawolves took the lead again in the third, scoring three runs due to a two run homer from centerfielder Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) and an RBI single by catcher Tucker Lee (Lexington, IL). Brown added an RBI single in the fourth, giving him an impressive outing of 3-5 from the plate with a double, a homerun, five RBIs and a run scored. The bullpen sealed the win with two scoreless innings pitched by Justin Avery (Lynn, MA), and a scoreless eigth inning pitched by Sean Adams.

The Seawolves have one weekend of competition remaining in the fall season. They will play in the NECA tournament at SMCC on October 4th. The time of the contests is still TBA.
