Seawolves Drop Two to Fighting Saints

Rutland, VT - This afternoong the Seawolves baseball team hit the road to play in their first conference game of the 2015-16 season. The Seawolves played at the College of St. Joseph's where they battled in game one but fell short and succumbed to the Saints, 2-1. Game two was all Saints as they picked up the 12-2 win in five innings. 

In game one veteran pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) threw six and one-third innings allowing seven hits, striking out two batters and walking none. However Boyle's pitching efforts would not be enough as the Fighting Saints prevailed on a walk off single to take the 2-1 win. The Seawolves' lone run came off an RBI double by infielder Cam Brochu (Manchester, ME) that scored Joe Apon (Portland, ME) in the sixth to knot the game. The Seawolves' did have scoring opportunities, but stranded nine base runners over the duration of the game.

In the next game pitcher Ben Johnson (Cambridge, MA) had a tough debut, giving up 11 runs over the course of the first two innings. Chasing an eleven run deficit the Seawolves were able to generate some offense in the fourth on back to back doubles from Sean Adams (Lebanon, ME) and Brochu. Those hits were followed up with a sacrifice fly by first baseman Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) and then a steal of home by Brochu on a double steal, first and third play to put the Seawolves on the scoreboard. Relief pitcher, Edward Michetti (Sanford, ME) had a solid three inning performance, giving up only one run while striking out two and walking one. 

The Seawolves will be back at it tomorrow for their first home game of the fall season. They will be play against the Wildcats of UNH in a double header scheduled for 12 and 2pm.
