Seawolves, Wildcats Split

Seawolves, Wildcats Split

South Portland - The Seawolves baseball team split this afternoon's double header against the Wildcats of UNH, picking up their first win of the fall season.

The Seawolves got down early in game one, trailing 5-0 after three innings of play but they buttoned up their defense and kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. SMCC started to claw their way back into the game in the fifth when Edgar Montan (Dominican Republic) hit a two RBI double to score Chase Morales (New Britain, CT) and Cosmo Romano (South Portland, ME) making the score 5-2, It looked like a comeback might be in the cards when Seawolves' first baseman Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) crushed a two run homer in the sixth to bring the SMCC to within one. The Wildcat defense thought otherwise as they forced SMCC to go three up, three down in the seventh to come away with the 5-4 victory.

SMCC got immediate redemption when they took a commanding 11-1 win in game two. The Seawolves got down early, 1-0, but managed seven runs in the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Joe Apon (Portland, ME), RBI doubles from Montan and Sean Adams (Lebanon, ME) and another impressive bomb from Reichert, a three run homerun, and giving the Seawolves a 7-1 lead.

The Seawolves carried their momentum into the third inning when Apon smacked a two RBI triple which was followed up with a Tim Rodrigues (Barnstable, MA) single to bring Apon across the plate. Montan capped the Seawolves scoring efforts with an RBI double to score Rodrigues and give the Seawolves the 11-1 advantage that they would maintain through the fifth inning.

After today's double header the Seawolves are now sporting a 1-3-1 overall record. They will play again on Wednesday at CMCC at 4 and 6pm.
