Seawolves Beat UNH, Fall to St. Joe's in Fall Championship

Concord, NH - At today's YSCC fall tournament the Seawolves downed the Wildcats of UNH, 3-1, in the first round but fell to the College of St. Joe's (VT) in the championship game, 4-1.

Seawolves' pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) threw a complete game, giving up only four hits and striking out six batters in game one. The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead when infielder Edgar Montan (Dominican Republic) scored on a ground ball by first baseman Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) that was misplayed by the UNH defense. The Wildcats scored in the second to tie the game at 1-1. In the fourth Seawolves' third baseman Shawn Murphy (Poland, ME) was hit by a pitch to get on base and then pinch runner Daniel Kane (Portland, ME) stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to regain the lead, 2-1. The Seawolves' solidified the win when pinch runner Chase Morales (New Britain, CT) scored on a Joe Apon (Portland, ME) ground out in the sixth.

In the championship game St. Joe's took the early lead when their lead off batter scored in the first. Seawolves' pitcher Amos Herrin (Wilton, ME) was able to put the Saints down in order in both the second and third but a solo homerun by CSJ in the fourth put the Seawolves down 2-0. The Saints tacked on two more runs in the fifth. SMCC's solo run came in the sixth inning when Cam Brochu (Lewiston, ME) tripled and was brought home on a Reichert ground out to second. The Saint's bull pen was able to keep the Seawolves' offense quiet for most of the game as they cruised to the 4-1 win.

Seawolves' catcher Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, ME) was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Tournament for his performance behind the plate during both games.

The Seawolves will continue their fall season on Tuesday October 6th when they host Bridgton Academy at 4pm.
