Seawolves Drop Two on Opening Day

Myrtle Beach - Yesterday the Seawolves traveled to Mrytle Beach, SC to kick off their spring season with a 3pm game against Camden County College of New Jersey. This game resulted in a 12-6 loss for SMCC. As soon as game one was done the Seawolves were back at it with a 6pm outing against Chesapeake College of Maryland. The Skipjacks overpowered the Seawolves and came away with a 14-0 victory.

SMCC started off hot in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning off a Cam Brochu (Manchester, ME) two RBI single. Camden responded with two runs in bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. Camden pulled ahead in the second inning but Seawolves first baseman Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) answered with a three run homerun. The Cougars kept the Seawolves off the scoreboard for the next three innings as they pulled away with the 12-6 victory.

In game two Reichert left his normal first base post to take a turn on the mound as the Seawolves are playing seven games in four days, and the hot hitting Skipjacks took advantage, pulling ahead early and holding on for the shutout. The Seawolves were able to avoid the no hitter with back to back singles in the fourth by Caleb Burpee (Kennebunk, ME) and Shawn Murphy (Poland, ME) but they were unable to get on the scoreboard as Chesapeake took the 14-0 win.

The Seawolves continue their road trip this afternoon with two games at 3pm and 8:30pm.
