Dean Slips Past SMCC

Dean Slips Past SMCC

South Portland - The Seawolves battled back from an early 4-0 deficit in yesterday's game against Dean College to pull the game to within one run but they couldn't get over the hump as they fell to the Bulldogs 7-6.

After giving up four quick runs the Seawolves made a pitching change, subbing in Amos Herrin (Wilton, ME), who came up with back to back strikeouts to get SMCC out of the second inning. Trailing 4-0 entering the fifth, SM's catcher Tucker Lee led off with double and a hard hit gap shot by Juan Espinosa (Spring Hill, FL) scored Lee and sparked the Seawolves offense. The Bulldogs got the run back in the bottom of the inning on Seawolves passed ball with two outs. In the sixth inning Seawolves' outfielder Caleb Burpee (Kennebunk, ME) hit a solo homer to lead off the inning and then first baseman Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) and outfielder Daniel Kane (Portland, ME) each had RBIs to bring the score to 5-4 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Seawolves took the lead for the first time in the seventh inning when Lee hit an RBI single and Kane followed up with an RBI groundout, making the score 7-6. In the eighth inning Dean's Peralta hit a two RBI double that would end up being the game winner as the Bulldogs picked up the 8-7 victory.

The Seawolves, now 11-19 overall, will be back in action on Wednesday April 20th when they host YSCC foe Central Maine CC at 3:30pm.
