Chambers Leads Seawolves Past Lynx

Chambers Leads Seawolves Past Lynx

South Portland - The Seawolves grabbed two wins in this afternoon's double header against the Lynx of NHTI, 12-2 in game one and 9-6 in game two.

NHTI struck first in the opener, scoring off a ground out to second base to go up 1-0. Seawolves' short stop Tim Rodrigues (Barnstable, MA) tied the game when he scored off an errant pass by the Lynx catcher and then Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, ME) crushed a three run homer to put the Seawolves on top 4-1. Chambers got back up to the plate in the third inning and once again cranked one over the fence to score two runs and cushion the SMCC lead.

In the fourth inning the Seawolves continued to cruise with an RBI double by Daniel Kane (Portland, ME) and an RBI triple from Joe Apon (Portland, ME) to extend the lead to 8-2. The SMCC wrapped up the game in the fifth when they poured on four runs thanks to a double from outfielder Caleb Burpee (Kennebunk, ME) and singles from Chambers, Juan Espinosa (Spring Hill, FL) and Kane.

In game two junior pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) held the Lynx scoreless throughout the first three innings as the Seawolves built up a 7-0 lead. SMCC put up one run in the first off an RBI single by Chambers and then tallied six runs in the third inning. Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) delivered a two run homer while teammates Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, ME) and Apon combined for four RBIs.

Despite being shut out through the first three innings Lynx would not go away and slowly chipped away at the Seawolves lead. The combination of runners getting on base after being hit by pitches, errors by the Seawolves infield and a couple Lynx hits brought the game to within a single run, 7-6, going into the bottom of the sixth. Apon and Chambers each hit doubles in the sixth to help the Seawolves put two more runs on the board and the defense contained the Lynx in the seventh to grab the 9-6 win.

Chambers had an impressive day for the Seawolves, finishing the afternoon with two doubles, two homeruns, eight RBIs, four runs and a stolen base.

With these two wins the Seawolves improve to 15-19 overall and 9-6 in the YSCC. Their next game will be a double header on Wednesday the 27th at home against CMCC at 2:30 and 4:30.
