Seawolves Trample Mustangs

Seawolves Trample Mustangs

South Portland -  The Seawolves came away with two wins in this afternoon's baseball double header against the Mustangs of Central Maine CC, 12-4 in game one and 15-0 in game two.

In the opener the Mustangs were up 4-3 going into the bottom of the third inning when Seawolves third baseman, Shawn Murphy (Poland, ME), crushed a three run homer to give SMCC their first lead of the game. SM pitcher Amos Herrin (Wilton, ME) held the Mustangs hitless for the next two innings and then thanks in part to another dinger from Murphy, this one good for two RBIs, the Seawolves rattled off six fourth inning runs to take a commanding 12-4 lead. SMCC tacked on two more runs in the fifth and then outfielder Caleb Burpee (Kennebunk, ME) took the mound and threw a hitless sixth to seal the win, 14-4, for the Seawolves.

Game two was all about Seawolves pitcher Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, ME), who in his first start of the season threw a no hitter. Cyr has pitched in five of the Seawolves 33 games as a relief pitcher but this afternoon he threw five innings, shut out the Mustangs and helped the Seawolves grab a 15-0 victory. Outfielder Joe Apon (Portland, ME) and second baseman Chase Morales (New Britain, CT) led the Seawolves offense with two doubles apiece and three combined RBIs.

The Seawolves (17-19, 11-6 YSCC) will be back in action on Sunday afternoon for a double header at home against Massasoit Community College at 1 and 3pm.
