Seawolves Split with Massasoit

Seawolves Split with Massasoit

South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves were able to sneak in a double header against Massasoit Community College despite the recurring rain showers. The Seawolves ended up falling to the Warriors 2-0 in game one but redeemed themselves in the second when the squeaked out a 3-1 come-from-behind victory.

In game one 54 batters stepped up to the plate and only ten managed hits, six for the Warriors and four for the Seawolves. An impressive day on the mound for Massasoit pitcher Jake Stearns who chalked up ten strikeouts, with no walks, no runs and only four hits. SM pitcher Amos Herrin (Wilton, ME) took a couple innings to settle in and find his rhythm but once he did he pitched five consecutive scoreless innings and tallied five strikeouts. The one hiccup for the Seawolves was the second inning when a Warrior hit, coupled with a Seawolves error and a Warrior stolen base put two Massasoit runners in scoring position. Then first baseman Justin Martinho came up with a big two RBI single to put the Warriors up 2-0, which would end up being the final score of the game.

The Warriors wasted no time putting up a run in game two, scoring their second batter to take an early 1-0 lead. Seawolves' pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) wrapped up the inning with two strikeouts and then proceeded to hold Massasoit scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Seawolves trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Shawn Murphy (Poland, ME) singled and then Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) and Edgar Montan (Dominican Republic) both walked to load the bases. Catcher Juan Espinosa (Spring Hill, FL) followed up with a two RBI double to put the Seawolves on top 2-1. Daniel Kane (Portland, ME) singled and drove in Montan to pad the lead 3-1 and take the come-from-behind victory.

After today the Seawolves are 18-20 overall and 11-6 in conference. They will have one more regular season outing on Tuesday May 3rd against Dean College at 3:30pm.
