SeaWolves Sweep Double Header in Walk-Off Fashion

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine.— The Southern Maine Community College baseball team defeated New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in both games of its first double header this season on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Game 1 (W 8-7):

Sophomore Kyle Parmley (Eliot, Maine) got the nod for the SeaWolves in the first game. Parmley tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits. He notched five strikeouts in his 2016 debut.

Sophomore Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) went 2-4 at the dish and drove in three runs for the SeaWolves. Catcher Tucker Lee reached base on two walks and recorded two RBI to help give the home team the advantage. NHTI rallied to score six runs and even the score at 7-7 in the top half of the seventh inning. SMCC delivered on a walk off play to beat the Lynx 8-7. First-year Tyler Kruse (Punta Gorda, Fl.) was credited with the win.

Game 2 (W 7-6):

In the second game, sophomore Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) started on the bump for the SeaWolves. Herrin pitched five innings and allowed four runs, two earned, over four hits.

Lee was a perfect 3-3 at the plate while Chambers, Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine), and Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) all recorded two RBI. The SeaWolves collected 12 hits as a team to sweep the double header and win again in walk-off fashion 7-6.

SMCC now stands at 2-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC).

The action continues when SMCC plays host to YSCC opponent Central Maine Community College on Thursday, Sept. 15 at the HUB Athletic Field. Games are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
