SeaWolves Split YSCC Double Dip

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College baseball team split its double-head against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent Central Maine Community College on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Game 1 (W, 4-2)

Sophomore Kyle Parmley (Elliot, Maine) earned the start for the SeaWolves in the first game and did not disappoint. Parmley tossed a complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out five. Central Maine jumped on the scoreboard early posting two runs in the first inning, but the six-foot right-hander held the Mustangs scoreless for the remainder and was credited with the win.

First-year Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine) recorded two hits, two RBI, and scored a run to help his team come from behind and defeat Central Maine 4-2. Sophomore Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) swung the other hot bat for the SeaWolves contributing with three hits and a RBI.

Game 2 (L, 11-10)

Head Coach Jordan Yanni turned to sophomore Max Salevsky (Hollis, Maine) in the second game of the double dip. Salevsky went three innings and allowed five earned runs. Junior Charlie Hallak (Augusta, Maine) came on in relief and pitched six strong, allowing just three runs (two earned over eight hits.)

The SeaWolves were able to string together only three base hits, but with timely base running scored 10 runs in the game. Sophomore Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) crossed home plate four times for SMCC, and Parmley delivered two RBI.

Coach Yanni commented, "Our guys showed poise and grittiness today. Both teams battled hard and it will be a good rivalry in the future."

The SeaWolves are now 3-2-1 in YSCC play.

The action continues when SMCC plays host to the Beavers of the University of Maine- Farmington on Saturday, Sept. 24 in a non-conference double-header scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
