Chambers Headlines SMCC’s Four Baseball All-Conference Selections

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team was well represented in this year’s Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) All-Conference voting. Sophomores Edgar Montan (Santiago, Dominican Republic), Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine), and Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine) earned selections to the nine-man team—sophomore Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) was named YSCC Player of the Year.

Montan capped his sophomore season with a .302 batting average and a career-best .438 on-base percentage (OBP). The third baseman worked 15 walks and collected 12 runs-batted-in (RBI’s) in 99 plate appearances.

Herrin hit .360 from the lead-off spot, ranking second among conference players in this category. The sophomore matched a team-high 27 hits and crushed two homeruns in 75 at-bats; he recorded 12 walks and 10 RBI’s in 25 games for the SeaWolves. In five appearances and four starts on the hill, the right-hander worked a 3.48 earned run average spanning 31 complete innings.

Chabot loomed dangerous in the three-hole for the SeaWolves leading the team in both OBP (.517) and slugging percentage (.535). The lefty also led the team with 16 walks and recorded 14 RBI’s in 43 at-bats for SMCC.

Chambers led his team and matched a conference-best 13 extra-base hits that featured 10 doubles, two triples, and a homerun in all 26 games for the SeaWolves. The sophomore recorded 14 RBI’s, 14 walks, and swiped 10 bags as the veteran on the club. A two-time All-Conference selection, Chambers was steady taking on a new position this season sporting a .926 fielding percentage behind the plate.

The SeaWolves (7-4-1 YSCC, 11-14-1 overall) finished their 2016-17 campaign on a high note winning their fifth conference title in six years.
