BROCKTON, Mass.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team split with the Warriors of Massasoit Community College in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, April 17.
Game 1: W, 15-9
First-year Tanner Strout (Charleston, Maine) earned the start on the bump for the SeaWolves in the first of the two-game matinée. The left-hander tossed 1.2 innings and was charged with eight runs, four earned. Sophomore Kyle Parmley (Eliot, Maine) came on to get the final out of a bases loaded jam in the second and pitched the remainder, allowing just one earned run over four hits.
Sophomore Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine) launched his second homerun of the season, and finished with four RBI’s in the game. Sophomores Edgar Montan (Santiago, Dominican Republic) and Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) both found their way on base four times, each with two walks and two hits.
Montan came across to score three times as the SMCC offense came together to score 15 runs, its largest run total of the season. In doing so, Parmley notched his second win of the season and the team’s first of its spring campaign.
Game 2: L, 6-4
First-year Nicholis L’Heureux-Carland (Fryeburg, Maine) made his second start of the season and allowed four earned runs over four innings of work. Sophomore Nathan Huot (Biddeford, Maine) came on in relief to give his team two strong innings of one run baseball.
Sophomore Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) and Chabot both record three-hit games.
L’Heureux-Carland was taxed with the loss when the Warriors went up three runs in the bottom-half of the fourth. The SeaWolves scored two in the fifth but were unable to complete the comeback.
SMCC improves to 6-12-1 overall and remains 3-2-1 in conference play. Massasoit stands at 6-10 overall.
The SeaWolves begin their Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) schedule on Friday, April 21 with a single nine-inning game against the Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI). First-pitch from Concord, N.H. is set for 4 p.m.
