SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team defeated the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in extra-inning walk-off fashion to win its fifth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) game of the season on Friday, April 28.

Sophomore Max Salevsky (Hollis, Maine) put together the longest outing of any SeaWolf this season, dealing 10 complete innings of one-run baseball. The right-hander allowed eight hits and just one walk in his pitcher's duel with CMCC's  Evan Roberts. The Mustang worked quickly allowing just one earned run— adding seven strikeouts.

In this game runs were of a premium, and it wasn't until the eighth inning that the Mustangs jumped on the board. A lead-off single and an error turned into a runner on third base with one out. CMCC's Alex Biron delivered the RBI-single to give his team the 1-0 advantage.

With fog starting to set in and one out in the bottom-half of the inning, sophomore Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) connected for his first home run of the season, and third hit of the game, to knot the score at 1-1. Unable to make use of a Nathan Huot (Biddeford, Maine) single in the bottom of the ninth, the SeaWolves were headed for extras.

Huot came on in relief for Salevsky in the 11th to retire the side in order and give the home team another chance. First-year Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine) worked a walk to open the inning and sophomore Edgar Montan (Santiago, Dominican Republic) did his job to move the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt.

With one out and Huot at the dish, Head Coach Jordan Yanni called for the suicide squeeze. Leeman slid home safe on a bunt that beat the pitcher and the SeaWolves walked off to win their second in a row.

Sophomore Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) extended his hitting streak to four games and Huot was credited with his first win of the season— the Mustangs' Biron with the loss.

SMCC improves to 5-3-1 in conference play and 8-13-1 overall. CMCC drops its fourth straight to stand 4-7-1 and third in the YSCC standings, 8-7-1 overall.

These two teams will do it again on Saturday, April 29, this time a YSCC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
