SeaWolves Lock Up One-Seed In Split With CMCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team split with the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader on Saturday, April 29.

 

Game 1: W, 13-3 (six innings)

Sophomore Kyle Parmley (Eliot, Maine) earned the start on the bump in a crucial game one for the SeaWolves. With the YSCC top-seed on the line, Parmley was magnificent allowing just one earned run on five hits.

SMCC scored in every inning but the first, and in the sixth inning posted five runs to extend its lead by 10 runs to walk-off early.

Sophomore Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) had himself a game with three hits including his first homerun of the season. The lead-off man recorded four RBI’s and improved on his team-leading .313 batting average.

Sophomore Nathan Huot (Biddeford, Maine) also notched two hits, both doubles, and two RBI’s as the SeaWolves posted a double-digit run total for the third time this season.

Parmley earned his fourth win as the Mustangs’ Brandon Varney was taxed with the loss.

 

Game 2: L, 3-1

Box Score

In making his fourth start, Herrin bettered his team-low 3.48 ERA by allowing no earned runs on six hits. The right-hander was in control mowing down 12 Mustangs by way of strikeouts—walking just two.

The SeaWolves came up with three hits and one run as the answer to CMCC’s three in the fifth inning.

The Mustangs’ Alex Biron was credited with his first win of the season; Herrin with the loss.

The SeaWolves lock up the top-seed in preparation for the YSCC Championship Tournament hosted by SMCC on Saturday, May 6. SMCC stands 6-4-1 in conference play and 9-14-1 overall. CMCC sports a record of 5-8-1 in conference, 9-8-1 overall.

The action continues when SMCC travels to New Hampshire Technical Institute for a single nine-inning game on Wednesday, May 3. First-pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
