SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team was defeated by the Bulldogs of Dean College in both games of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 9.

Game 1: L, 8-5

Box Score

First-year Nicholis L'Heureux-Carland (Fryeburg, Maine) made his first start of the season for the SeaWolves throwing 5.2 innings before giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits.

Dean struck first in the top-half of the second with a run-scoring single; the SeaWolves would answer posting three runs in the bottom of the inning with two RBI's delivered by sophomore Kyle Parmley (Eliot, Maine) and one by sophomore Max Salevsky (Hollis, Maine).

Dean's Daniel Blazejewski deposited a three-run homerun over the right field fence with one out in the third inning to give his team its second lead of the game. SMCC pushed two more across in the bottom-half of the fifth to reclaim a 5-4 lead.

L'Heureux-Carland surrendered four runs in the sixth before James Thomas Magno Jr. (New Gloucester, Maine) came on in relief to get the final out of the inning. The SeaWolves were unable to manufacture another run as the Bulldogs shut the door on an 8-5 victory.

Dean's Victor Paiva came away with the win as L'Heureux-Carland was taxed with the loss.

Game 2: L, 10-1

Box Score

First-year Tanner Strout (Charleston, Maine) got the nod in the second game giving his team three innings of work before Salevsky made his fourth appearance of the season, both allowing five runs, four earned.

The home team didn't seem to have an answer for Dean's Kyle Priest who allowed just two hits over seven innings. SMCC scored its lone run in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Edgar Montan (Santiago, Dominican Republic) scored first-year Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine) on a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Bulldog's offense rolled out 10 runs behind Christopher Wood's 4-5 from the dish, three runs, and two RBI's.

SMCC rides a five-game skid and stands 5-8-1 overall as the Bulldogs improve to 8-12.

The SeaWolves will play host to Northern Essex Community College in a single nine-inning game on Tuesday, April 11. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Follow the live stats HERE
