Portsmouth, N.H.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team defeated the Herons of Great Bay Community College in both games of a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader 6-4 and 15-2 on Friday, Sept. 8.

GAME 1: W, 6-4

Great Bay began its inaugural season carrying a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning, before the SeaWolves posted four runs and held the Herons scoreless in the last frame to complete the come-from-behind win in game one.

Game 2: W, 15-2 (Five Innings)

In the second of the double-dip, the Seawolves flexed their muscles blasting four home runs, two by junior Sean Adams (Lebanon, Maine), and one for both junior Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) and first-year Dylan Francoeur(Westbrook, Maine) in his third career at-bat. SMCC pushed 15 across to finish in five innings.

The SeaWolves start 2-0 overall, the Herons 0-2.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Jordan Yanni commented, "The offensive production today was encouraging against a talented Herons club. In the first game, we didn't lay down and fought to come from behind— we didn't have that lull in the second game and continued to swing the bats. Great Bay is certainly a worthy opponent and excited to see where this program goes in the future."

Waiting on deck are the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College in another YSCC doubleheader on Wednesday, Sept. 13. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in South Portland. LIVE STATS will be available: http://www.gosmccseawolves.com/sports/bsb/2017-18/boxscores/20170913_9zno.xml
