SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team dropped both to the Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 16, defeated 11-9 and 3-1.

Game 1: L, 11-9 | Box Score

Making his first start of the season was junior Nathan Huot (Biddeford, Maine). The left-hander tossed 4.1 innings before giving up four earned runs. Opposite was NHTI's Sean McClure who threw for a similar stat line, allowing five earned.

The SeaWolves struck first posting three runs in the bottom-half of the third by way of back-to-back sacrifice flies and a two-out RBI single by recent YSCC Player of the Week Sean Adams (Lebanon, Maine). The Lynx would chip away and eventually go ahead on a two-RBI triple by Bradley Murphy in the fifth.

Huot was the off the hook when SMCC evened the score at 5-5 with production from the middle of the line-up on consecutive doubles by junior Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine) and Adams. The Lynx blew up for five runs spanning the sixth and seventh innings when SMCC found themselves in the hole 11-5.

First-year Timothy Greenlaw (Windham, Maine) made things interesting smashing a grand slam over the right field fence shrinking the deficit to 11-9 in the bottom of the seventh, but the SeaWolves came up short unable to reach with their last out.

The bullpens earned decisions as SMCC's Zachary Skillings (Raymond, Maine) suffered the loss and NHTI's Matt Chandler was credited with the win.

Game 2: L, 3-1 | Box Score

Head Coach Jordan Yanni handed the ball to first-year Devin Sawyer (Ayer, Mass.) in the second of the double dip.

The SeaWolves worked the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, but could not cash in. It wasn't until the fourth inning that sophomore Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine) batted a line drive up the middle to drive in the game's first run. The Lynx answered in the sixth inning, again a two-RBI triple by Murphy and a single to center courtesy of Dakotah Cappelletty to take a 3-1 lead.

Down to their last out, the bases were full of SeaWolves in the seventh but couldn't find a hole in a solid Lynx defense. Sawyer went the distance tallying nine strikeouts but suffered the 3-1 loss. NHTI used a combination of Andrew Coulombe and Christian McClellan to notch its third win of the season.

SMCC remains atop the YSCC standings with a 4-2 record overall.
