Baseball Suffers Sweep At Spring Training Day 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team began its 8-game slate at Cal Ripken Spring Training dropping both of a two-team doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 8.

The SeaWolves were shutout 8-0 to the reigning United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national champions from Penn State University Du Bois in the first game. The SeaWolves came up with three hits in a 4-1 loss to Penn State University Hazleton in the afternoon contest. Sophomore Nick Rinaldi (Tampa, Fl.) threw 5.2 innings and allowed all four, one earned, spread over four hits—striking out six. [Game 2 BOX]

In combination with the fall season, SMCC stands 11-3 overall.

The action continues Monday, Mar. 9 when the SeaWolves face Penn State University Greater Allegheny for a 12 p.m. start time followed by Union County College at 3 p.m.
