Baseball Walks Off, Comes Up With Doubleheader Sweep

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team came up with its first two wins of the 2020 spring season defeating the Nittany Lions from Penn State University New Kensington and NJCAA-opponent Union County College on Wednesday, Mar. 11.

The SeaWolves used nine hits to score eight in a see-saw affair that was solved in the bottom-half of the sixth inning to defeat New Kensington by a one-run margin. First-year Cameron Dunton (Brunswick, Maine) picked up the win and sophomore Stefan Lesco (Somers, Conn.) the save. First-year Joshua Paisley (Portland, Maine) executed from the dish with three hits in three trips and two RBI.

SMCC found late magic scoring seven runs in the final two frames and junior captain Colby Gunter (Nashua, N.H.) delivering the walk-off hit to score two. SMCC produced 13 hits and six walks to take care of Union County—first-year Alexander Miller (Brandon, Fl.) led the charge going a perfect 4-4 with a walk, a RBI, and three runs scored. Rookie pitcher Aidan Klik (Fairfield, Conn.) earned the win, throwing a perfect sixth inning.

The SeaWolves stand 13-6 overall.
