Walsh Resigns From Baseball Duties, Quinn Appointed Interim Head Coach

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has announced the resignation of Dave Walsh from the Head Baseball Coach position, effective February 16.

Walsh parts ways to return to Massachusetts and serve as a baseball and facility director at Sluggers Academy. Walsh joined the SeaWolves’ staff in the fall of 2018 as an assistant coach and took over head coaching duties for the 2019 spring season. During his time as Head Coach, Walsh posted a 32-12 overall record, captured a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) championship in 2019, and earned an at-large bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament in the same season.

Walsh commented, “I want to thank Matt Richards and SMCC for the opportunity to lead the Wolfpack. I am very grateful for my time at the College, and I will never forget it. I wish the program the best of luck moving forward!”

Director of Athletics, Matt Richards stated, “Coach Walsh was a wonderful asset to the department and we thank him for all of his efforts in elevating the program. Coach Walsh will undoubtedly find continued success in the baseball world.”

The baseball program will continue its instructional model this spring. Former assistant Nolan Quinn has been appointed Interim Head Coach for the remainder of this season, and Jeff Bozek Interim Associate Head Coach. Prospective student-athletes should direct their communication to Coach Quinn.
