Men’s Basketball Loses Season Opener to Holland College

South Portland – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men’s basketball team lost a close battle to Holland College 84-78 this afternoon. The Seawolves were down 79-74 at the two-minute mark and were able to cut the lead to one with less than a minute to go.  Holland College came through with a few clutch free throws to secure the win, despite shooting just 61% from the line as a team.

Freshman Anderson Santana (South Boston, MA) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  He also contributed 3 steals, 2 assists and a blocked shot. Senior guard Josh Mackie (South Portland, ME) hit 6 threes to lead the team with 20 points.  Freshmen guards Emmanuel Donalson (East Orange, NJ) and Shon Powell (Monroe, LA) chipped in 12 and 10 respectively.

Holland College had six players in double digits led by Leo Morris’s (Nassau, Bahamas) 20 points and 6 boards.

The Seawolves are in action again on Saturday, October 29th at the CAN-AM Tournament hosted by Central Maine Community College.  They face St. Thomas University at 4:00pm.
