The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team beat Holyoke Community College (HCC) 74-72 in a strong effort down the stretch. The Seawolves trailed by one at half and by as much as five with less than ten minutes remaining in the game. A three-pointer by senior guard Josh Mackie (South Portland, ME) would finally give the Seawolves the lead with 4:45 left on the clock. Three lead changes would follow with HCC taking a one-point lead with 15 seconds remaining. Senior guard Joe Jardine (Greenville, ME) then found Mackie in the corner for the game-winning 3.
Mackie led the Seawolves with 27 points on 9-16 shooting from behind the arc. Freshman guard Emmanuel Donalson (East Orange, NJ) contributed 21 points while freshman Nate Dow (Old Orchard Beach, ME) led the team with 8 rebounds.
The victory improves SMCC's overall record to 8-9. The men play conference foe Paul Smiths College on Saturday, January 14th at 1:00 PM. The game will be played at Vermont Technical College.
