Men’s Basketball Finishes Tip Off Tournament with Win Over Navy Prep

South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team turned in a big 64-45 win over Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in the final game of the SMCC Tip Off Tournament. The win came just one day after a very close and physical game against Berkeley College on Saturday night. Tonight's game proved to be much of the same, but NAPS couldn't keep up with the speed of the Seawolves.

SMCC led by only one point at halftime, but the Seawolves pressure defense and transition offense would help them outscore NAPS 36-18 in the second half.  As a team, SMCC shot 40% from the floor, including 50% from behind the three point arc.

Sophomore guard Shon Powell (Monroe, LA) led the Seawolves with 13 points, while freshman Jon Amabile (Portland, ME) chipped in 12.  Sophomore point guard and captain Jose Nouchanthavong (Westbrook, ME) turned in another strong performance with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists to only 1 turnover.

SMCC improves to 4-1 overall and remains 1-0 in conference play. The men travel to Bridgton Academy on Wednesday, November 7th for a 6:00 PM non-conference game.
