Auburn, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team beat College of St. Joe's of Vermont tonight in the first round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournament by a score of 61-53. The Seawolves started off slow but was only down 1 at half time. The Fighting Saints came out roaring in the second half to take a 46-33 13 point lead with 12 minutes left in the game. However, the Seawolves never gave up and were able to finish the game on a 28-7 run to move on in the tournament.
The Seawolves had an all around effort with 3 starters in double figures. SMCC was led by sophomore guard Emmanuel Donalson (East Orange, NJ) who led all scores with 20 points including 6 of 7 from the free throw line and contributed 8 rebounds. Freshman guard Jon Amabile (Portland, ME) had 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting from the floor. Controlling the offense was sophomore point guard Jose Nouchanthavong (Westbrook, ME) who had 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting and also chipped in with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
SMCC gets thier 20th win of the season to improves to 20-10 overall and 13-5 in conference play. The Seawolves will take on rival New Hampshire Technical Institute (NTHI) tomorrow Frebruary 17th for a spot in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) championship game. The game will be held at Central Maine Community College (CMCC) and is scheduled for a 4:00PM start.
