Seawolves Take Down Knights

Seawolves Take Down Knights

South Portland - The Seawolves knew they may have their hands full this afternoon as they battled against 2013-14 first team All-American, Jamal Hughes, and the Knights of Vermont Tech. However, the defensive pressure of SMCC's Kevin Fabian (Lawrence, MA) and Tyheem Simon (Queens, NY) contained Hughes all game, not allowing the Knights' dominate offensive weapon to get hot, and lifted the Seawolves over Vermont 70-53.

Not only did Fabian have a stellar night on the defensive side of the ball, he also put up career high numbers on offense, dropping in 11, while going 3-6 from beyond the arc. All three of Fabian's makes from the perimeter came in the first half when he and his teammates shot an impressive 6-13 (46.2%) from downtown. Freshman center Carlos Gonzalez (Lewiston, ME) also had a solid night for the Seawolves scoring 12 points, grabbing eight rebounds and not committing a single turnover. Guard/forward Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) rounded out SMCC's trio of double figure scorers, chipping in 10.

Despite the extra attention from the Seawolves defense, Hughes still managed to score a game high 19 points and collected 10 rebounds, seven of those coming on the offensive glass.

After today's contest the Seawolves advance to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They will be back on the court at Unity College on Wednesday night at 8pm.
