Seawolves Overcome NHTI in Close Battle

Seawolves Overcome NHTI in Close Battle

Concord, NH - Despite committing 17 turnovers and shooting an unimpressive 4-14 from the free throw line in the first half, the Seawolves managed to enter the halftime break knotted at 38-38 with conference opponent New Hampshire Technical Institute. In the second half the Lynx were able to get Seawolves' big man, Carlos Gonzalez (Lewiston, ME) into foul trouble, but in his absense small forwards Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) and Alexander Hartford (Naples, ME) stepped up, combining for 27 of the team's 50 second half points and helping the Seawolves' pick up win number ten, 88-80 over NHTI.

Tonight's game was a close battle that consisted of nine ties and five lead changes. With just 10 minutes remaining in the contest, the Seawolves were holding onto a slight lead, 64-60. A 12-7 Seawolves' run spurred at the 9:53 mark by a Justin Robbins (Sarasota, FL) three pointer and that ended with consecutive three's by Kevin Fabian (Lawrence, MA) and Josh Tuplin (Bath, ME) helped cushion the SMCC lead, 76-67. NHTI would only get as close as seven for the remainder of the game.

Once again the Seawolves were led by Martin who achieved game highs in both points, with 22, and rebounds, grabbing 14. Hartford, who ended with 13, was the only other SMCC player to net double figures. Leading the Lynx were Yordy Tavarez and Curtis Williams who scored 20 and 17 respectively.

After tonight the Seawolves improve to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in YSCC play. They will look to remain unbeaten in conference on Saturday when they take the floor against UMaine-Machias at home at 3pm.
