Knights Slip Past Seawolves in OT

South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves, ranked number one in the first USCAA coaches poll that was released on Friday, faced off against the number three ranked Knights of Central Penn College. Trailing 82-79 with under 30 seconds to play in regulation, Seawolves' shooting  guard Kevin Fabian (Lawrence, MA) nailed a three, one of five for the game, with five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In overtime the Seawolves secured a one point advantage, 92-91, on an Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) layup with 4.8 seconds remaining but an offensive rebound and putback as time expired by the Knights' Dominique Twiggs would give Central Penn the 93-92 overtime win.

The Seawolves trailed early but back to back three pointers by Fabian would put them up 22-19 with 8:50 to play in the first half. In a four minute span the Seawolves knocked down five shots from beyond the arc, Fabian had three and teammates Grayson Waterman (Berwick, ME) and Justin Robbins (Sarasota, FL) each had one to expand the SMCC lead to 14, 37-23. The Seawolves held onto the lead until just 1:28 seconds remained in regulation when Knights' point guard Andre Batte converted two consecutive layups to put Central Penn on top 80-77. A  layup by Fabian pulled the Seawolves back to within one but Central Penn's center Devon Dorsey responded with a layup of his own to put the lead back to three. Fabian responded once more when he curled off a screen and nailed a three to send the game into overtime.

The Seawolves started overtime with a 6-0 run but proceeded to give up three offensive rebounds which the Knights converted into seven points, taking an 89-88 lead. With :30 on the clock Seawolves' point guard Jordan DeRosby (Waterville, ME) took his defender off the dribble and got to the rim to lay in an easy two, putting the Seawolves back on top. A Seawolves' foul sent Twiggs to the charity stripe where he capitalized on both shots putting the Knights up 91-90. The Seawolves would pull ahead once again with less the five second on the clock but Twiggs responded with a buzzer beating layup, giving Central Penn the victory.

Fabian led the Seawolves with a career high 21 points, including 5-8 shooting from downtown, while Martin and Tyheem Simon (Queens, NY) each netted 18. The Knights were led by Twiggs who netted 16 points, including the last six of the overtime period, and grabbed 19 rebounds. Dorsey led all scorers with 21 points and point guard Batte chalked up a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go with seven assists.

This loss is just the second for the Seawolves (12-2, 8-0 YSCC) thus far this season. They are now on holiday break and will return to action on January 8th at home against Northern Essex.
