Gonzalez Leads Seawolves Past Lynx

South Portland - Freshman center Carlos Gonzalez (Lewiston, ME) scored a game high 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, which included 10 offensive boards, to lead the Seawolves to a commanding 92-63 victory over the Lynx off New Hampshire Technical Institute. 

The Seawolves dominated the glass in the first half, outrebounding NHTI 33-10, thanks to eight rebounds from both Gonzalez and teammate Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME). Despite the rebounding deficit the Lynx were able to keep the score close for the first twenty minutes, in which the Seawolves shot 0-9 from beyond the arc, entering the break trailing by only nine, 40-31. 

In second half action the Seawolves took over. At the 12:49 mark a made jump shot by Alexander Hartford (Naples, ME) spurred a 14-3 tun to give SMCC a 20 point cushion, 72-52. Shooting guard Josh Tuplin (Bath, ME) connected on three three pointers in the second to help the Seawolves pull away from the Lynx and grab their 18th win of the season. 

Noteworthy Seawolves' performances aside from Gonzalez, included Tyheem Simon (Queens, NY) who netted 18 points and Martin who added 10 points and 13 rebounds. Yordy Tavarez led the Lynx with 21 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Seawolves (18-2, 12-0 YSCC) will hit the road on Saturday for a game against conference foe UMaine-Machias at 3pm.
