Seawolves Roll Past Mustangs Using Stellar Shooting and Balanced Scoring

South Portland - HUB gymnasium was packed and the crowd was roaring as the Seawolves took the floor against the Mustangs of CMCC for their final home game of the 2014-15 season. Picking up a win would mean the Seawolves would go a perfect 14-0 in conference play but games against CMCC are guaranteed to be tough. In the first meeting of the rivals the Seawolves picked up a one point win at the buzzer when Jordan DeRsosby (Waterville, ME) converted on a three from deep in the corner. The second meeting would be a little different however, the Seawolves jumped out to a 7-0 lead never looked back, eventually picking up the 90-74 win.

After the Seawolves opened with a 7-0 run, the Mustangs responded with a 7-0 run of their own to knot the game at 7-7, the only tie of the game. Seawolves' Jack Tolan (South Portland, ME) ended the Seawolves drought with a make from beyond the arc to put SMCC back in the drivers seat where they would remain for the rest of the game. The Seawolves would drain four other shots from downtown to go along with Tolan's, shooting guard Grayson Waterman (Berwick, ME) netted two while DeRosby and Josh Tuplin (Bath, ME) each connected on one. Tyheem Simon (Queens, NY) helped set the tone early in the first half for the Seawolves, scoring ten points while shooting a perfect 4-4 from the floor, giving the Seawolves a 43-35 advantage at the half.

Mustangs' forward Carrington Miller came out of half time fired up, scoring his teams' first six points and hoping to cut into the SMCC lead, but Waterman answered by drilling his third three and followed that up with a layup to give SM the 50-41 lead. The Seawolves were able to put 10 people in the scorebook in the second half alone, using a balanced scoring attack to pick up their twentieth win of the season and remaining perfect in YSCC play.

Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) led all Seawolves' scorers with 15 points and six rebounds. Simon finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and Waterman had 13 points and five assists. Tolan added 11 points, five rebounds and DeRosby scored nine points and dished out five assists. Tuplin also finished with nine points and had four assists.

Xavier Colbert had a double-double for the Mustangs with 13 points, 10 rebounds and Miller finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Seawolves (20-2, 14-0 YSCC) have one more regular season test before entering tournament play. They will travel to Vermont Tech on Saturday for a 3pm game.
