Seawolves Start Slow but Finish Strong to Defeat VTC

Randolph Center, VT - This afternoon's men's basketball matchup between SMCC and Vermont Technical College started out in a way that noone would've expected. After twenty minutes of play the Seawolves had put up only 13 points, their lowest offensive performance in a half in the 2014-15 season, as they trailed the Knights 17-13 going into the break. 

Back-to-back made shots by Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) and Tyheem Simon (Queens, NY) to open up the second half knotted the score at 17-17. A back and forth game saw the Seawolves trailing by two, 47-45, with six and half minutes remaining but then Martin took over. He drained a three pointer from the left baseline and then scored 10 consecutive points for the Seawolves to put them on top 58-51. The Seawolves' defense was able to hold the Knights to just three points for the remainder of the game as the pulled away with the 68-54 triumph. 

Martin ended with a game high 20 points, on 8-11 shooting from the floor, and six rebounds. Seawolves' center Carlos Gonzalez (Lewiston, ME) also had a good shooting night going 7-10 from the floor, scoring 15 on the afternoon.

Jamal Hughes and Logan White each netted 15 for the Knights. 

The Seawolves (21-2, 14-0 YSCC) will participate in the YSCC quarterfinals on Friday against Eastern Maine CC at a time to be determined.
