IN BRIEF: In perhaps the biggest upset of the 2015 USCAA Basketball National Championships, #9 Penn State Mont Alto held off a late rally from #1 Southern Maine Community College to advance to the semifinals of the Men's Division II bracket. Leading the way for the Lions was Corey Meyers. Meyers, who entered averaging 7.6 points per game, scored 24 points on 8-12 shooting and added seven rebounds.

ON THE COURT

With the game tied at halftime, Southern Maine Community College went cold from the field in the second half and watched Penn State York take a 14 point lead with just under seven minutes left. From there, the Seawolves got nine straight points from Jordan Derosby to get back into the game. The Lions would regroup to hold Southern Maine CC to just one point in the game's final two minutes to pull out the win.  

In addition to Meyers, Jeremiah Mitchell and Sharif Welton scored in the double digits for Penn State Mont Alto. Devonte Merritt chipped in 12 rebounds in the winning effort. The Lions were able to withstand 25 turnovers by shooting 50% from the field and securing 46 rebounds during the contest.

The Seawolves were led by Tyheem Simon with 15 points and Derosby who chipped in 14. During the second half, Southern Maine Community College shot just 25% from the field and made just 8-21 (38.1%) shots from the free throw line overall.

NEXT UP

Penn State Mont Alto will advance to play #4 Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte at 5:00 p.m. in Main Arena for a Men's Division II semifinal contest. Southern Maine Community College will move to the consolation bracket where they'll face off against #5 Penn State York at 12:00 p.m.
