Nittany Lions Silence Seawolves

South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves trailed by as many as 21 in the second half against the Nittany Lions of PSU-Beaver. Despite numerous attempts at a comeback the Seawolves were unable to get any closer than eight, eventaully falling to the Lions 92-80. 

In first half action the Nittany Lions shot an astounding 50% from the three point line and 53% from the field while holding the Seawolves to a mere 16% shooting from downtown and 35% from the field. PSU also shot 79%, 11-14, from the free throw line in the first half while the Seawolves were only 4-7. This allowed PSU to take 49-32 lead into the locker room at the half. 

After the break the Lions scored four quick points with a Lamont Wright layup and and a jump shot by Gerald Boykin to take their largest lead of the game, 53-32. The Lions maintained the 21 point advantage until the 14:25 mark when shooting guard Grayson Waterman (Berwick, ME) sank a much needed three. Waterman's field goal sparked a 12-2 run that put the game back within reach for the Seawolves, 64-53. The teams exchanged baskets for the next five minutes until the 6:25 mark when Waterman connected on an old-fashioned three point play to slash the lead to eight. The Lions responded with a make from beyond the arc and again Waterman converted on a layup and drew the foul for a three point play the hard way. Waterman scored 11 consecutive points to keep SM in the game but the Lions had an answer every time the Seawolves got close, ending the game at 92-80.

Waterman led all scorers tonight with a career high 29 points. Point guard Jordan DeRosby (Waterville, ME) added 12 and center Keanyon Lambert (Manchester, NH) chipped in with 10. 

Wright led the Lions in the scoring column with 25 and teammate Marcus Smith netted 22.

Up next for the Seawolves (3-5, 1-1 YSCC) will be UMaine-Augusta. This game will be held at UMA on Tuesday the 24th at 8pm.
