Mustangs use Second Half Run to Knock off Seawolves

South Portland - After being deadlocked at the intermission, the Mustangs of CMCC used a late second half run to overcome the Seawolves, 82-73.

In tonight's YSCC rivalry matchup the Seawolves (5-11, 3-3 YSCC) were looking to knock off top ranked CMCC (12-4, 5-0 YSCC). The two teams exchanged baskets for the first fifteen minutes but a Ville Wuorenjuuri (Helsinki, Finland) three pointer sparked a 12-4 SM run and gave the Seawolves their largest lead of the game, 41-31, with less than three minutes remaining in the half. The Mustangs closed out the half by rattling off 10 unanswered points, including makes from downtown by Kionno Nelson and Elijah Barbour, to knot the game at 41 apiece as the teams headed into the locker room.

The Mustangs opened the second half with a dunk by junior standout Carrington Miller which led to a 20-7 CM run over the first six minutes. Another Wuorenjuuri three pointer at the 5:42 mark pulled the Seawolves to within ten, 70-60. The lead stayed in double digits for the next three minutes until a John Morgan (Sanford, ME) layup and a made free throw by Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, NH) slashed the CM advantage to seven. That was as close as the Seawolves would come before time expired and the Mustangs took the 82-73 victory.

The Seawolves will enter the holiday break at 5-12, 3-4 YSCC. They will resume play in the first week of January.
