CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was defeated by the host and #1 Lynx from NHTI 93-69 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Elite 8 semifinal round on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Coach Matt Richards and the SeaWolves used a methodical, half-court offense to combat the athletic transition-style scheme the Lynx employ so well. First-year Oumar Keita (Bridgeport, Conn.) knocked down a jumper to even the score at 37-37 with 1:17 remaining in the first before the Lynx finished the half on a 5-0 run.

The home team pulled ahead with an eight-point swing to begin the second half to lead 52-41. The SeaWolves would bring it back to within five before NHTI sprung another run to put it out of reach for a spirited SMCC squad.

YSCC Second Team selection Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) dropped a game-high 20 points on 4-8 from downtown. First-year Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) also contributed for the SeaWolves posting 15 points on 5-9 shooting.

Five finished in double figures for the Lynx led by Jaevan Dobbins with 18. YSCC Player of the Year J'Quavious Thurmond recorded a complete stat line with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

NHTI advances to play #3 Vermont Technical College in the YSCC title game on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The Lady Wolves will await the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division 2 National Championship bid selection videos on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. for a chance at an at-large bid to Uniontown, Penn. All videos will be uploaded to headlines at www.theuscaa.com, basketball.theuscaa.com, and the USCAA Network YouTube Channel.
