Men’s Basketball Suffers Narrow Defeat At Home

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was narrowly defeated 63-62 by United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Div. 1-opponent Bryant and Stratton College- Albany on Saturday, Jan 22.

Gripping a 2-point lead at the half, the SeaWolves fell down by as much as 12 points midway through the second. Junior captain Ian Regan (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) helped spark a comeback with seven points inside three minutes to close the game 57-55. Junior captain DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) evened the score 62-62 on a made jumper with 1:28 remaining before the road team regained a 1-point lead by way of a free-throw. The SeaWolves were unable to convert on a last-shot opportunity and suffered their first loss since Dec. 5.

Regan tallied his third double-double of the season going for 19 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore captain Cameren Cousins (Wells, Maine) threw in 12 points in 33 minutes of work.

Bryant and Stratton's Charles Echols led his team with 18 points on 7-14 shooting; Denali Burton chipped in with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.

The result moves SMCC to 10-4 overall; Bryant and Stratton improves to 11-3 on the year.

The SeaWolves return to conference action when they travel to Portsmouth, N.H. on Monday, Jan. 24 to take on the Herons of Great Bay Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
