Men's Basketball Bested By Great Bay

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was defeated 77-70 on its home floor by Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) foe Great Bay Community College Wednesday, February 8.

The Seawolves led at the half 33-30 but weren't able to maintain their momentum in the second, getting outscored by 10 points. As a team, SMCC struggled from the three-point line, but managed near their season mark from the field.

Sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) scoredin double figures for the ninth time this season, ending the game with 15 points and five rebounds. Senior captain DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) posted 13 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore captain Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) matched with 13 himself.

Theodore Wolfe led Great Bay with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and teammate Kingsley Breen followed close behind with 15 points and four boards.

When asked about the game, Head Coach Matt Richards said, "Credit to Great Bay, they made us uncomfortable in the half court and to go along we didn't execute well in the second half. We will get back to work and clean up our mistakes to perform better with our remaining three conference games."

This, a third straight loss, slips SMCC to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

The Seawolves next game will be played at home vs. the University of Maine at Augusta on Sunday, Feb. 12. Tip-off at The HUB is set for 2:00 p.m.
