PORTSMOUTH, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was defeated 74-56 at Great Bay Community College (GBCC) in the first of a two-game Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) series on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
SMCC managed just 17 points in the first, its lowest half total of the season. Meanwhile, GBCC posted 32 points to gain a 15-point advantage at the break. The Seawolves more than doubled their offensive production in the second half, but it wasn't enough to make up the difference.
Sophomore guard Cole Pulkinen (Hebron, Maine) recorded a complete game with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Rookie forward Sean Bosia (Dracut, Mass.) scored an efficient 11 points on 5-9 shooting, and sophomore Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) netted 10 in 30 minutes of action.
Four GBCC starters finished in double digit scoring led by Theodore Wolf's 18—he leads the conference averaging 26.4 ppg. Ethan May stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
SMCC remains winless at 0-9 overall, 0-5 in YSCC play. GBCC sits atop the conference table at 7-2.
The Seawolves return home to host the USCAA Div. 1 Knights from Berkeley College (NY) on Saturday, Dec. 7. Tip-off at the HUB Athletics Center is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
