SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team earned a 3-1 result over conference foes Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in comeback fashion on Thursday, Sept. 28.

CMCC started strong, jumping on the scoreboard in the 7th minute with a goal from Ivan Domingues, assisted by Isidoro Domingues. However, the home team settled in and netted three goals in the second half to secure their sixth straight win.

The first goal for the Seawolves came in the 61st minute when first-year Carsen Cyr (Madawaska, Maine) found the back of the net on a header, assisted by first-year Joseph Hanlon (South Portland, Maine). SMCC continued momentum when junior Nicholas Shaw (Newport, Maine) scored an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute to give them a 2-1 lead. Rookie forward Josiah Irish (Gorham, Maine) sealed the victory for the Seawolves converting on a penalty kick at the closure of regulation.

Both teams had a similar number of shots, with CMCC taking 15 shots and SMCC taking 17. However, the Seawolves had a higher number of shots on goal, with 11 compared to CMCC's eight. This efficiency in front of the goal contributed to their victory.

The goalkeepers also played a crucial role in the game. First-year Bryton Kieltyka (Augusta, Maine) made seven saves, while his CMCC counterpart Arnaud Nyagasaza collected eight.

The Seawolves advance to 7-1 overall; CMCC drop to 4-1-1.

Next, SMCC will play host to the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College in Yankee Small College Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff at Wainwright is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
