Noah Riskind Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has announced the hiring of Noah Riskind as Head Men’s Soccer Coach effective immediately.

Previous to his appointment at SMCC, Riskind served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Bates College for two seasons (2022-23)—after a stint as Assistant Coach for the two prior. At the helm, Riskind led the Bobcats to an overall record of 9-16-5.

A native of Bethesda, Md., Riskind graduated from Bates in 2016 as a four-year member of the men’s soccer program. He served as captain for two seasons and earned a First Captain’s Award as well as Bates’ George L. Wigton Scholar Athlete Award. The defender started 54 games during his playing time with the Bobcats, including all 40 NESCAC regular season games. Riskind was also a member of the 2015 northeast division champion Portland Phoenix PDL team.

Riskind went on to earn his Master’s degree in education from Boston University in 2018. As it relates, he has worked for Teach For America and then as an English teacher in Colombia for two academic years on back-to-back Fulbright grants. Currently, he serves as Assistant Director of the Rosati Leadership Academy as lead grant writer and coach for the Lewiston-based nonprofit.

Riskind expressed, “I am excited and honored to have the chance to coach such an outstanding group of student-athletes who are committed to success on the field and in the classroom. I am so thankful to Matt Richards and Ethan Wells for the opportunity. I deeply appreciate the path that Coach Houghton and Coach Dougher have forged for the SMCC Men’s Soccer program and cannot wait to get to work.”

Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Noah to our coaching staff. His experience coaching at the collegiate level coupled with his teaching background will undoubtedly be a combination that serves the men’s soccer program well. His passion for the program is already established, and I look forward to working alongside him as he puts his vision to action.”
