SOUTH PORTALND, ME – The Lynx of NHTI, Concord’s Community College defeated the number one seed Vermont Technical College 96-94in the YSCC Championship game this afternoon. With the win the Lynx receive the automatic bid to the USCAA National Tournament March 1st to the 5th.

VTC had a 19 point lead heading into halftime and had complete control of the game.  Second half NHTI came out of the locker room bound and determined to knock off the number one seed.  NHTI was lead by Bestfort Syla who had 25 points, five assists and five steals.  Teammates Jackson Riel and Marv Leveille chipped in with 19 a piece. 

For the Knights of VTC, Nick Simpson led all scorers with 34 points, 11 boards and six assists. Simpson was also honored as the YSCC Best Offensive Player of the Tournament.

Terry Williams from NHTI was the YSCC Tournament MVP while Bestfort Syla was the YSCC Best Defensive Player.

SOUTH PORTALND, ME – The Southern Maine Community College women took down the number one seed Central Maine Community College 76-67 in the Championship game of the Yankee Small College Conference Final Four hosted by SMCC. 

This afternoon was a true team effort from the Seawolves with all seven players scoring.  Leading the charge was freshman Christina Ricci with 24 points.  Freshman teammate Jessica Truman chipped in with 21 points.  Both ladies also were recognized as YSCC Tournament MVP and Best Offensive Player, respectively. 

The SMCC women will now head to USCAA National Tournament in Uniontown, PA.

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – New Hampshire Technical Institute defeated Southern Maine Community College in the last game of the night, 91-83.

New Hampshire fought back from a halftime deficit, 37-33, in the second half to earn a spot in tomorrow evenings men’s championship game.  New Hampshire was led by Terry Williams with 31 points and 8 rebounds.  Southern Maine was led by junior guard, Josh Mackie, with 28 points.

New Hampshire will now face the Green Knights of Vermont Technical College in the YSCC Men’s Championship game tomorrow at 2pm to earn an automatic bid to the USCAA national tournament.

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – The Green knights of Vermont Technical College cruise by the Golden Eagles of Eastern Maine Community College, 87-46, in the third game of the YSCC tournament.

Vermont jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  Going into halftime with a 27 point lead, 47-20, the Green Knights eased into tomorrow night’s men’s championship game.  Leading the way for the Green Knights was Nick Simpson who scored 29 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. YSCC player of the year, Kevin Carr, helped out by adding 21 points.  Thelbert Green scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles.

The Green Knights will play the winner of the Southern Maine Community College/ New Hampshire Technical Institute tomorrow in the men’s championship game at 2pm.

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – In the second game of the YSCC tournament, the Seawolves defeated the Moose, 71-64. 

The Seawolves led for the majority of the game but the Moose kept it close.  Southern Maine was led by sophomore, Alisa Sweet, with 19 points and 19 rebounds. Teammate, Christina Ricci, added 24 points and 12 rebounds.  The Moose were led by Katie Poirier who scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a losing effort.

Southern Maine Community College now plays Central Maine Community College in the YSCC women’s championship game tomorrow at 12pm.

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – The first game of the YSCC Final Four featured the #1 Mustangs of Central Maine Community College getting by the #4 Golden Eagles of Eastern Maine Community College 59-52.

The game was narrow until the last minute where the Mustangs took advantage of some key turnovers to pull away with the win. The Mustangs were led by Danielle McClusker with 33 points and 7 rebounds. Teammate, Danielle Hebert, chipped in with 14 points and 5 rebounds.  The Golden Eagles were led by Sarah Long, who had 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Golden Eagles also had three other in double figures.

The Mustangs will now face the winner of game two of today’s action that features Southern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Augusta tomorrow at 12pm in the YSCC women’s championship game.

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - Southern Maine Community College will be the host of the 2011 Yankee Small College Conference Final Four.  The semi-final rounds will be on Saturday, February 19th with the championship games on Sunday, February 20th.
