
Augusta - In tonight's YSCC basketball action the uptempo pace of the SMCC was too much for the Lady Moose of the University of Maine - Augusta as the Lady Seawolves cruised to a 89-60 victory.
At the halftime break the Lady Seawolves were up by nine, 45-36, but the combination of full court pressure and intense defense by SMCC in the second half held the Lady Moose to only 24 points in the second twenty minutes of play. A balanced scoring attack by the Lady Seawolves was led by shooting guards Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) who poured in 20 points and Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) who chipped in 15 points. Other double digit contributors were point guard Yaritza Tejada (Chelsea, MA) who went 2-2 from behind the arc, adding 11 points for the Lady Seawolves and forward Nyalieb Deng (Portland, ME) who racked up her third double double dropping in 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Other noteworthy performances came from post players Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) who grabbed 13 rebounds and chipped in seven points and Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) who brought down seven rebound and dropped in eight points.
Leading the way for the Lady Moose were forward Jamie Plummer (Richmond, ME) who had a double double scoring 19 points and ripping down 16 rebounds and guard Jennifer Lola (Monmouth, ME) who led all scorers with 24 points.
With this win the Lady Seawolves improve to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in YSCC conference play. The Lady Seawolves will return to action on Tuesday December 3rd at Unity College.
