Turner, Griffin Lead Seawolves to Season Opening Win

Auburn - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves opened up the 2015-16 season at the annual Can-Am tournament hosted by Central Maine CC, against the Lions of St. Lawrence. Point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) and shooting guard Sammie Griffin (Union, ME) combined for six made three pointers and 27 total points to lead the Seawolves to a 67-46 victory. 

After one quarter of play the Seawolves were holding onto a two point advantage, 18-16, thanks to the ten point, seven rebound performance of post players Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA) and Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME). In the second quarter the Seawolves outscored St. Lawrence 19-9, which included five points from SMCC newcomer Ashley Shine (Springfield, MO), and took a twelve point lead into the locker room. The third quarter was all Turner and Griffin as they scored 14 of the teams' 19 points, connecting on 4-5 shots from beyond the arc. The final period the Seawolves forced the Lions into seven turnovers, they committed 29 for the game, to cruise to the 67-46 triumph.

Turner led the team with 15 points, four steals and four rebounds while Griffin chipped in 12 points and three steals. Hoyt also managed double digits with 11 points to go with three assists. Jones led the team in rebounds with 14 and put up nine points.

Laurence Vandal let St. Lawrence with 25 points on 10-15 shooting.

The 1-0 Seawolves will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10am as they take on UNB-St.John at CMCC.
