Lady Seawolves Pick Up First Conference Win

Lady Seawolves Pick Up First Conference Win

Randolph Center, VT - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves picked up their first win in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play against the Knights of Vermont Technical College.

The Seawolves were sitting on a five point cushion after the first quarter, 23-18, and in the second the SM defense held the Knights to just four points managing to take a 36-22 lead into the break. After the intermission the uptempo style of the Seawolves began to wear on the six-person VTC roster as SMCC continued to pad their lead, taking an eventual 79-48 victory.

Pacing the Seawolves was defensive specialist Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) who scored a career high 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists. In her debut outing of the 2015-16 season, Seawolves' forward Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) made a seamless transition from the soccer pitch to the basketball court, tallying a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Other noteworthy performances came from center Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) and point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) who netted 11 and 10 points respectively. Vanese Barnes (Jay, ME) also chipped in a season high nine points and four steals.

Leading the Knights was shooting guard Kaitlin Lyford who scored a game high 21 points.

With this win the Seawolves improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Their next game will be at home on Wednesday, November 18th, against Unity College at 6pm.
