Seawolves' Balanced Scoring Attack Downs Unity

South Portland - This evening the Seawolves hosted Unity College in their second conference game of the season. The Seawolves put all ten players in the scoring column and forced the Rams into 35 turnovers to come away with the 113-30 victory.

Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) got the offense started for SMCC, scoring 10 of her team high 18 points in the first quarter, helping give the Seawolves a 39-6 lead after ten minutes of play. The Seawolves' offense looked like it cooled down in the second quarter when they scored just four points in the opening three minutes but point guard Destinie Montano (Chicopee, MA) changed that when she netted back to back three pointers.

The Seawolves opened up the third quarter with a 16-5 run that included three consecutive makes from beyond the arc by shooting guard Sammie Griffin (Union, ME). SMCC converted on a season best eleven three pointers, shooting an impressive 46% from downtown.

Seawolves' post players Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA), Hannah Heald (Appleton, ME), Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) and Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) all had noteworthy performances down low. Jones ended with 16 points, 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, Heald chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds, Hoyt netted 12 points, and Veino ended with nine points, 10 rebounds. Point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) added 14 points and a game high seven assists and Griffin ended with 11 points. 

Unity was led by Katie Dole who scored seven points and a game high 12 rebounds. 

With this win the Seawolves improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Next up on the schedule is Penn State-Mont Alto who they will face eon Saturday November 21st at 1pm.
