Montano Drops 17 to Lead Seawolves Past Lynx

South Portland - Freshman point guard Destinie Montano (Chicopee, MA) netted a career high 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists and had three steals to lead the Seawolves to a 68-54 victory over the Lynx of NHTI. 

After one quarter of play the score was 14-10 in favor of the Seawolves. In the second quarter the Seawolves' came to life, connecting of 3-6 attempts from beyond the arc, forcing the Lynx into nine turnovers and outscoring the Lynx 19-9 to take a 14 point lead into the intermission. 

The Lynx came out refreshed from the break and outscored SM by six to close the gap to 45-37 heading into the final period. With four minutes remaining in regulation Lynx' shooting guard Danielle Kimball connected on her fifth three pointer on the game to pull the Lynx to within one, 53-52. In the final three and a half minutes the Seawolves put up 15 points, which included five from center Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME), four from Montano and four from center Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA), and held the Lynx to a lone basket to come away with the 68-54 triumph.

Hoyt tallied her third double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kimball paced the Lynx with with 16 points while center Jillian Gilman added seven points, 14 rebounds and 12 blocks. 

With this win the Seawolves improve to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the YSCC. Next up for the Seawolves will be UMaine-Machias at home at 2pm.
